Cultural routes in Palma: the sweet stop at Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo

Palma is much more than sun and beach. Our city hides a rich historical and cultural heritage waiting to be discovered. Both tourists and locals enjoy cultural routes in Palma: the historic center with its cobbled streets, the sculptures by Joan Miró displayed on the streets, or the magnificent hidden Mallorcan courtyards. Palma offers an experience that connects the past and the present, and the best way to explore it is by combining a cultural route with the authentic taste of Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo.

For over three centuries, at Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo, we have witnessed and enjoyed the evolution of Palma, being part of the lives of its inhabitants. Our traditional products, such as almond ice cream or hot chocolate, are a piece of our history and culture, going far beyond just a simple sweet.

To combine cultural visits with the tradition of our sweets, we suggest three routes to explore the most notable places in the city, ending at one of our locations, where we will be delighted to serve you so you can enjoy a well-deserved break while tasting one of our products.

Route 1. A historical walk

When it comes to cultural routes in Palma, we must begin our journey at the iconic Cathedral of Mallorca, an undeniable symbol of the city, home to the largest Gothic rose window in the world. Continue to the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, the official residence of the Kings of Spain in Mallorca, and immerse yourself in the beauty of S’Hort del Rei, an ancient royal garden with one of the most photographed fountains in the city. After this stop, visit La Llotja, a majestic Gothic building that usually hosts cultural exhibitions, and also Es Baluard, the contemporary art museum of Palma on the city’s walls. Finally, enjoy wandering through the lively Santa Catalina neighborhood and finish your walk in style with a deserved sweet treat at our location on Baró de Santa Maria del Sepulcre.

Route 2. The heart of Palma

Let’s continue with the cultural routes in Palma. This time, the route starts at Plaça d’Espanya, the vibrant meeting point for all Palma residents, and heads to the Jardines de la Misericordia, a peaceful and beautiful spot located at the foot of the building housing the cultural headquarters of the Consell de Mallorca. Continue along the Rambla, with its flower stalls, and climb the stairs to reach Plaça Major, the true heart of Palma, always full of life. Once you’ve taken some photos, head to Plaça de Cort to admire s’Olivera, an olive tree over 600 years old. Finish your route at our oldest establishment, located on Carrer de Can Sanç, and indulge in your favorite sweet.

Route 3. A journey into the past

For history lovers, this route is perfect for exploring the oldest soul of Palma. Begin at Parc de la Mar, with spectacular views of the sea and the Cathedral, and venture into the old Jewish quarter. Here, you’ll find the Arab Baths, one of the best-preserved treasures of Islamic architecture in Mallorca, surrounded by a small garden. Continue along Carrer del Call, the heart of the old Jewish quarter with its medieval atmosphere, and arrive at the Basilica of Sant Francesc, a Gothic gem that deserves to be admired. Keep strolling through the lively Sindicat street until you reach our location at number 74, the perfect place to relax while filling your stomach with happiness.
