Historic Furniture in Palma: Discover the Centenary Heritage of Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo

At Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo, the nostalgic atmosphere isn’t found only in every spoonful of ice cream or in the unique, unmistakable flavor of our ensaimadas—it’s also embodied in the century-old furniture and décor that have witnessed generations of Palma’s residents come and go.

Today, we invite you on a visual journey through the pieces that transform Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo into a small historical museum in Palma, where every detail tells a story of local tradition and craftsmanship.

Dark Oak Chairs and Tables: Witnesses Since 1938

When we moved in 1976 to our Can Sanç location, we chose to preserve the dark oak chairs and tables brought from the old bakery in 1938 by the La Roqueta tile factory. These sober, sturdy pieces were originally installed to provide a comfortable seat after a stroll through the historic center. Today, their weathered wood holds the echoes of thousands of family gatherings, reunions of old friends, and countless moments shared.

1892 Hydraulic Tiles: The Floor of Modernist Palma

Beneath your feet, the hydraulic tiles designed in 1892 by the Antoni Mascaró workshop form a mosaic of geometric and floral patterns. First laid in our original Santa Eulàlia location, these tiles traveled with us to Can Sanç, making each step a reminder of how modernist architecture and design took root in late 19th-century Palma.

Period Lamps: A Living Portrait of Tradition

The ceiling lamps, with their tulip-shaped shades and wrought-iron arms, first hung in Can Sanç in the 1940s. They still use exposed-filament bulbs—warm and gentle—creating an intimate refuge where time slows and comfort takes center stage.

Hand-Painted La Roqueta Sign: An Icon Reborn

No discussion of our décor would be complete without mentioning the hand-painted ceramic sign from the La Roqueta factory, lovingly restored in 1976. With its curved lettering and faded green hues, it links our past at Santa Eulàlia with our present at Can Sanç, reminding us that tradition is a living legacy.

Every visit to Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo is, in essence, a stroll through Palma’s tangible heritage. As you sit in our oak chairs, gaze at the hydraulic floor, and look up at the antique lamps, you connect with over 300 years of island history. We invite you to discover how Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo’s furniture and décor celebrate Mallorcan craftsmanship and make every coffee break a truly unique experience.
